THE ALISON GLASS COMMUNITY QUILT ALONG: Color Study
A free quilt along beginning October 2, 2026.
Join us to make Color Study, a sampler-style quilt that explores color and value one block at a time.
A QUILT TO MAKE TOGETHER
Color Study is made up of 25 different main blocks, with changes in scale, shape, color, and value throughout.
Beginning October 2, we'll focus on one block each week.Â
You can keep up week by week or move more slowly if that works better for you. There is no need to have the whole quilt figured out before we begin.
COLOR IS AT THE HEART OF IT
Our Color Study quilt moves through the color spectrum, beginning with pinks and warmer colors and continuing through yellows, greens, blues, and purples.
Value is especially important. Lighter and darker shifts help define the piecing, allowing individual shapes to emerge, especially in the places where one color begins to lean toward another.
As we make the quilt, we'll have lots of opportunities to look more closely at these relationships.
THE COLOR STUDY SAMPLE
Our Color Study sample is made with Color Camp Basics, my collection of 84 fabrics designed around the full color wheel.
The collection includes 24 main hues along with darks, muted colors, and progressively lighter values. That range makes it possible to work within one part of the color spectrum while still having plenty of contrast between the fabrics.
It made Color Camp Basics a natural starting place for Color Study.
You can follow the same progression through the color wheel or choose a completely different palette.
Part of what we're looking forward to most is seeing how Color Study changes through everyone's individual choices.
HOW THE COMMUNITY QUILT ALONG WORKS
Sign up for free.
When you sign up, you'll receive the Color Study Welcome Guide with fabric requirements, the complete release calendar, and information to help you get started.
Block 1 arrives October 2.
If you join after October 2, you'll also receive access to any blocks that have already been released.Â
Make one block each week.
Beginning October 2, a new Color Study block pattern will be sent by email each Friday, with a short break over Christmas and New Year's.
Share as we go.
Join our dedicated Community Quilt Along group in AG Stitch Club to share progress, ask questions, and see what everyone else is making. AG Bee members will also have a place to share Color Study progress within The AG Bee. You can participate in the community as much or as little as you would like.
Bring it all together.
In mid-December, we'll share the filler blocks and setting pattern so you can begin bringing your Color Study blocks together.
1. Use fabrics from your stash.
Color Study is a great opportunity to use fabrics from your stash! This quilt benefits from variety, and the Welcome Guide includes fabric requirements and some guidance for building your own palette.
2. Make Color Study as shown.
If you'd like to follow our Color Camp Basics palette, we have a Color Study Kit with the fabrics you'll need to make the version shown.
3. Start with a Rainbow Color Bundle.
For a very short time, our Rainbow Color Bundle Sale is another fun way to gather a colorful starting point for Color Study. The sale begins Tuesday, [DATE], and these bundles typically sell out quickly.

How much does the Community Quilt Along cost?
Nothing! The Alison Glass Community Quilt Along: Color Study is completely free.
Can I join after October 2?
Yes. You can sign up at any point while the Community Quilt Along is underway. You'll receive access to the blocks that have already been released and then receive each new block as we continue.
Do I need to use Color Camp Basics?
No. Our sample is made with Color Camp Basics, and a Color Study Kit is available if you would like to make the version shown. You are equally welcome to use fabrics from your stash and create your own palette.
Do I have to keep up every week?
No. The blocks will arrive weekly, but you can sew at the pace that works for you.
Where can I share my blocks?
We'll have a dedicated Community Quilt Along group in AG Stitch Club where participants can share their blocks and progress.
You can also share on social media and tag @alisonglass and use #agcommunityqal and #agcolorstudy so we can see what you are making. AG Bee members will have an additional place to share inside The AG Bee.Â
What skill level is Color Study?
Confident beginner. These blocks are all rotary cut and machine pieced. There are no Y-seams or curves.
What size is the finished quilt?
70" x 90", plus binding.Â
